Understanding the Physiology of What’s Happening in the Brain - Living with people who are living with dementia (PLwD), we see both consistency and irregularities in their daily routines, habits, awareness, and moods.  We also notice changes in both physical and cognitive skills that seem to come and go at times.  Join us to find out WHY this is happening and how the brain is changing to effect the changes you both are experiencing.  Not only will you walk away with a better grasp of this condition and what your resident is experiencing, you will also understand options and choices you can make for more successful and more positive daily interactions.
What you will learn:
  1. Learn what different parts of the brain control, how those specific areas are affected by dementia, and how those changes present behaviorally.
  2. Understand the concept of brain change as it relates to daily activities both physically and cognitively.
  3. Explain what skills are typically affected earliest and why changes happen erratically.
  4. Become aware of what our care partners are experiencing so you can adapt your approach and skills to truly meet them where they are in the moment with this condition.
  5. Identify when you need to adapt and adopt new behaviors in caregiving situations to support someone who is in distress.
